“I was the youngest in the family and did not receive much education in my early years. At the young age of 13, I took on a job with my older brother as a general worker earning $150 a month. It was tough being the youngest in the company; most trivial yet troublesome errands were delegated to me. I went on coffee runs, kept the place clean, and had to clean up after everyone else had their meals.”

In 1995, Ronnie took a leap of faith on his own and started SHORI with a crew of only four. “Life always gets tougher, work was harder and the hours were longer. I had to multi-task getting sales, packing products and making deliveries.”

The sea does not like to be restrained and revealed its stormy temper barely 2 years into SHORI’s voyage. The Asian Financial Crisis 1997 proved treacherous for Ronnie’s sail. Big companies started closing down and business was hard to come by. “Fortunately, my customers and suppliers gave me continued support and SHORI made it through the crisis.” SHORI weigh heavy in its anchor; she remained honest and reliable gaining trust from its clients.

“Taking a quote from Thomas Edison, I would like to give some encouragement to my current and future employees, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” There are no shortcuts to real success, perseverance and hard work will take you to where you want to be.”

Since then, Ronnie and SHORI have weathered the SARS crisis in 2003 and the Global Financial Crisis in 2008. “SHORI has come from strength to strength since inception. She has served diversified customers from engineering, construction as well as the marine and offshore industry.”
